AMB90 - AMBORITE
Solid polycrystalline cubic boron
nitride (PCBN) composite material for the machining of hard ferrous
materials.
|
|
|
Manufacture
|
|
AMBORITE is manufactured by
sintering together carefully selected synthetic particles of cubic
boron nitride (cBN) at very high temperature and pressure. The
sintering is carried out in the presence of a secondary phase,
forming a ceramic binder which provides a high level of
thermal-chemical stability.
AMBORITE possesses a high degree of hardness, abrasion resistance
and toughness in addition to being thermally conductive as a
result of the high cBN content (90%).

|
Applications
|
|
These combined properties enable
AMBORITE to be used as a clamped insert in negative rake
toolholders for machining operations at high stock removal rates
on hard ferrous materials (45_65HRC), such as hardened steels,
pearlitic cast irons and nickel/chrome iron alloys. AMBORITE works
by self-induced hot cutting, which causes the workpiece material
to soften within the immediate chip generation zone. The heat
generated is discharged through the chips as well through the
AMBORITE insert, leaving the hardness of the workpiece unaffected.

AMBORITE is available in both full
disc and in semi-finished laser cut forms with sufficient
dimensional oversize to allow the blank to be machined to the
desired fully finished insert geometry.
